Valentine's Day is coming in just a few days, which for many people I know is in reality a real downer. This year I'd love to challenge you to make Valentine's Day a day of personal self care. What are some things I really love and how might I practice a little self care over the next few days? You still have plenty of time to plan your fun before the 14th. Here are a few of my personal favorite things:
Roger's Chocolates - the most delicious, decadent candy ever. My favorite of all time is the Vanilla Victoria Cream. The grandfather of one of my "extra kids" (a best friend of one of my kids) introduced these to me and buys me these every year at Christmas. So good I hate to share. Ordered some for myself and friends for Valentine's Day...
Soothing Touch Sore Muscle Soak Bath Salts - found these at Whole Foods and now I look for them everywhere I can find them. Light a candle, grab a book, relax in the tub, take a deep breath - and put your phone to the side.
Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee - I'm picky about coffee and I have a lot of food sensitivities. I love the Vanilla Oat Milk Latte (you see a vanilla pattern emerging here) and the staff at the Midtown location. Went on a Mom & Daughter Reading Date with Bailey before she went back to college - so fun! Take a book and hang out for a bit.
Anyone who knows me knows I. LOVE. STAT. WELLNESS. (@statwellness) It took a lot of courage for me to go the first time, but this one stop shop Medicine & Movement haven is a life changer. I frequent the Howell Mill Road location, but man, their new location in Roswell is gorgeous! (Check out their website and you might just find a picture or two of me!)
Because of Stat, I also learned about Metabolism Makeover and the hilariously down to earth Megan Kober (@megan.the.dietian) Ya'll - if you follow her smoothie recipes in the morning, you get something healthy in you AND you won't be hungry until 1 pm... Changing my life.
Food and Flowers at Trader Joe's - Their flowers last so long, their food is so delicious, and their staff is so friendly. If you aren't already a fan, run by and buy your own flowers for Valentine's Day - you won't regret it.
Georgia Grinders - my friend Jaime Foster is the Founder and CEO of this awesome local and organic nut butter business. Like I mentioned, I have a lot of food sensitives and the only nuts I can easily eat are pecans. The Georgia Grinders Pecan Butter is divine. You have to check out her stuff. I've found mine at the Peachtree Road Farmers Market, but until their season opens again I just pick some up at Publix - or you can order directly from their website.
Again - allergies - but I don't drink alcohol anymore. I love to indulge instead in an every day favorite - Montane Sparkling Water (the Lemon Honeysuckle is the bomb) - or a more infrequent treat - Recess (I recommend the Peach Ginger).
As you can tell, I am focused this Valentine's on making healthy AND fun choices for myself. I'd love to hear what YOU are doing to celebrate what an incredible human YOU are this week. Oh - and don't forget - one St. Valentine was thought to martyred in 270 CE - so it hasn't always been a day of overpriced roses and chocolates. It is a *bit* of a weird reason to celebrate love - so just go with it and have some fun.
